Today, the scope of information technology (IT) in various areas is obvious to everyone. Different Organizations and companies with different areas of work trying to make optimal use of IT in order to increase their efficiency, reduce costs and keep pace with today's changing and competitive market. For this purpose ITIL (IT infrastructure library) is the most accepted best practice in service management which consists of service providers best practices has a systematic approach to quality of IT services.

So far three versions of ITIL were published and the latest version ITIL V3 2011 introduces the concept service lifecycle which includes five main phases named service strategy, service design, service transition, service operation and continual service improvement. ISO/IEC 20000

ISO/IEC 20000 standard is the first worldwide standard in the field of IT Service Management which was created in December 2005 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This standard is based on the previous standard BS 15000, its last version was released in 2011. This standard includes five main sections that provides requirements and considerations for implementing service management framework to improve IT operations and achieving certification of ISO/IEC 20000. The five sections mentioned are as follows:

  • ISO/IEC 20000 -1 service management requirements
  • ISO/IEC 20000 -2 standard procedures
  • ISO/IEC 20000-3 scope and standard user's guide.
  • ISO/IEC 20000-4 the process models
  • ISO/IEC 20000-5 programs for the implementation of the standard.

The first part which contains the requirements of international standard ISO/IEC 20000 consists of the design, transition, delivery and improvement of services that meet the relevant requirements and create value for customers and also service providers. This standard requires a process approach from services in the design, deployment, implementation, utilization, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving the management system.
